Entertainment in British Virgin Islands

Back to Sailing in British Virgin Islands    |    More on Getting Married in British Virgin Islands

With music surrounding nearly everything, and beautiful scenery all around, it’s easy to see why locals and tourist alike come together to enjoy nightspots and other popular hangouts that the islands of BVI have to offer when the sun goes down. From live band performances to comedy shows or a combination of the two, it is clear that the hardest part of your vacation may be choosing what kind of entertainment to experience.

The British Virgin Islands has a variety of genres of music that can satisfy the musical appetites of the local community as well as visitors alike. It ranges from calypso to jazz or reggae to hip hop as well as the traditional music called fungi, after the local cornmeal dish with the same name. In the evening, several restaurants throughout our islands are temporarily transformed into a nightclub, offering music by popular local and international entertainers.

There is always something to do just about every weekend, whether its sipping strawberry piña colada while tasting savoury chicken wings during happy hour at many of the restaurants or dancing the night away at popular nightclubs.

Throughout the year, The BVI showcases international top performers from around the world at the annual music festival, usually held in late May on the beautiful beach at Cane Garden Bay.

During the emancipation celebrations in August, the island’s main festival, there are vibrant display of joyful spirits, dances, parties, parades, J’Ouvert (street performers who dance behind live bands in the early morning), Queen Shows, a Prince & Princess Competition, celebrations on Cooney Island, nightly events, and live shows.

It’s a visual experience, coupled with the aromas of Caribbean delicacies and the sounds of joyful laughter and music.
